On her final arrival at Kings Cross Station Sunshine is kidnapped by Kade Geroux and others after exiting the train. They intend to use her as a way of getting her family (the Underwoods) and their closest friends and neighbours (the Brocks) to do their bidding as both families had stayed out of the war on a personal level. Thinking her unconscious the whole time they were careless and had discussed issues of an important nature not knowing that she had been semi conscious and had heard everything.
Before they could make any use of her she is taken back by Shay and tells him what she heard. Originally Shay was going to return Sunshine to her family but after hearing what she knows and deducing that they would still target her because they see her as a weak link Shay is not sure that is the best path to take. Sunshine agrees and convinces Shay that it would be better if she goes into hiding but makes him promise that he will not say a word.
Sunshine knows that once Shay has made a promise he will keep it though Shay feels uncomfortable about this promise as it involves keeping secrets from not only his family but his best friend. They decide that the best way for Sunshine to be kept hidden but not under a Fidelius Charm is for her to keep on the move.
For added security she is either been put under an imperius curse, have parts of her memory removed or is confunded. This has made her a little confused and disorientated and gives her the impression that she is being watched and followed, which she is.
As this will be extra work for Shay and he did not want it to seem suspicious at work and he could not continually confund or even remove the memories of his work colleagues and boss, he and they are Obliviators after all, he asks Sunshine if he could at the very least allow for an dispensation and inform his boss, Zeke Fox, of his activities. Sunshine agrees to this as she could see where he is coming from but only if Zeke agrees not to say a word which he does.
Due to the situation they become really close and eventually fall in love and marry, though in secret, and Sunshine gives birth to twin girls, Astrid and Phoebe. Due to the situation they agree to separate the girls with Sunshine keeping Phoebe and Shay taking Astrid. Both girls look like their mother apart from their hair which is blonde and they both have the tree shaped birth mark on their shoulders which is a mark of the Brock family.
Knowing that he cannot care for his daughter as well as he should and not wanting to rely on his family for assistance as he knows questions will be asked he asks for the help of friend of his family, Naomi Monroe, who is a muggle-born squib and in return offers her his protection. Naomi agrees and upon meeting Astrid realises straight away who her mother is as she and Sunshine had been friends and she had seen baby pictures of Sunshine.
Naomi badgers Shay about it all and eventually Shay gets permission from Sunshine to allow her in but she is not told everything and does not know of Sunshine’s whereabouts unlike Zeke. Naomi, like Zeke, is sworn to secrecy but unlike Zeke is uncomfortable with it as she does know Shay and Sunshine’s family.
